Went to watch the "Sinking of Japan" with two of my good friends last night. What I saw seems to be a shocking foretale of what might come for Mother Earth in time to come.
As the world grows to depend more and more on natural resources, more often than not, we have forgotten to ensure that these remain sustainable and renewable. What we are taking from earth seems to be taking its toll. Take a look at the forest fires, heavy flooding, earthquakes and tsunamis that seem to be manifesting themselves at an alarming rate.
And just this morning, I read in the Star that global warming has escalated and 2007 could be the hottest year on earth ever? Yes, we have airconditioning, but what about the homeless and the poor? Leave them to withstand the scorching heat? The animals and the plants? Leave them to wither naturally, drying up and causing more forest fires?
Instead of sitting down and expecting others and the governments to do something, is there anything we can do? Beginning with our own lifestyle habits and our own homes. Send unwanted items for recycling instead of dumping them. I read sometime ago that Malaysia's daily rubbish can fill up the whole of the Twin Towers.
Do use less plastic bags, and more of the woven ones. Reuse again and again. These are very basic things, I guess. And don't blame the nature for the disasters, sometimes the human race has a hand in it.
